Artist Statement
I create functional pottery with a primary focus on functional forms and serving vessels that encourage sharing and connection. My work consists of wheel-thrown and hand-altered forms designed for daily use, where shifts in contour invite both visual and tactile engagement. Influenced by Cubism and the Japanese technique of kurinuki, I draw from two-dimensional composition to develop organic forms that feel dynamic yet balanced.
Central to my practice is the development of layered, complex surfaces through slip, terra sigillata, and atmospheric firing processes such as soda firing. Layered slip and terra sigillata surfaces are enhanced through atmospheric firing to create depth and visual complexity. Through the balance of organic form and expressive surface, I aim to produce functional objects that elevate everyday rituals while fostering shared experience.
